March Associates Only Ride

Saturday 14th March saw 13 Associates join the March AOR. Lead by Ashley Cole and tail-ended by Mike Seary the route took in a range of roads between the starting point at Westerham and the destination, the Route 1066 café at Robertsbridge.

Sat Nav workshop

Saturday 7th March saw 25 members and associates gather for LAM’s first Sat Nav Saturday and route planning workshop. The workshop was arranged by Bernie Segal, one of our members and led by Simon Forder at Vines of Guildford BMW, who kindly provided the venue and bikes.

The workshop covered the dark arts of sat navs including:

- Planning routes quickly in Google maps and the MyRoute app

- The difference between waypoints and shaping points

- How to share routes between riders including those with different systems

- Using sat nav on the move to re-route without stopping

In addition to the thoroughly informative classroom based workshop, Simon provided a number of “on bike” demos to small groups.

Simon was an excellent lead as not only is he a ride leader with TVAM and a member of ROSPA but also a participant in the Saddlesore challenge - a 1,000 mile ride around the UK completed in less than 24 hours, to raise funds for the Hampshire and IOW Air Ambulance.

Many thanks to Simon for the hugely informative training, to Vines for providing the venue and to Bernie Segal for organising the event. A further Sat Nav Saturday workshop on 2nd May has 25 spaces left, which also includes an optional ride out to Chichester for fish and chips afterwards. First come, first served with members prioritised for the places. See Tracker and contact Bernie Segal to reserve a place. The ride out is open to both workshop attendees and others.

Simon has posted lots of excellent instructional videos on You Tube – type “simon forder bmw” into You Tube for further details.
