Location of French road safety cameras revealed

French speed camerasThe locations of all 3,275 fixed safety cameras at the side of French roads have been revealed on an official interactive map. The map, available at radars.securite-routiere.gouv.fr, aims to provide road users with reliable on the location of speed cameras in service across the country, and will be updated every two months. The map identifies the 1,993 fixed speed cameras, the 695 red light-crossing radars, 407 vehicle identification radars and 102 average speedcams currently operational, as well as 78 level crossing cameras. It also provides information on the 70 dummy control routes, "where radars are moved regularly" along a particular stretch of road.

In 2019, road accident information will be included on the map, officials said. The map was promised as part of an 18-point plan announced in January by Prime Minister Edouard Philippe to halt the rise in road deaths recorded between 2014 and 2016.

There were 3,684 deaths on French roads in 2017, a 1.4% fall compared to the previous 12 months.

BTW:- Recently a rogue group of French traffic police face possible disciplinary action after disabling and “blinding” speed radars on motorways near the eastern city of Lyon. The Gendarmes were protesting against what one of them called “a road safety system based on financial gain”.
