    Chairs Chatter

End of July beginning of August we had a very successful Kent weekend with over 45 full day observed rides taking place. I would like to thank Steve Davis for his hard work in organising this event.

Steve Pratt LAM ChairmanThe next training weekend on the agenda is now open. And of course all the Observers who made it possible, I have received some great feedback from Associates about the event. This will be the WALES weekend taking place 21st - 23rd September. Everyone should have received an email about the event, if you haven’t please email Paul Harle at currenc@btinternet.com explaining you have not received details to the Wales w/e. I understand approximately half the room allocations have now been taken and all single rooms have gone, although Paul has a list of nearby hotels available if single room required. There is a change in venue, as our two previous hotels used have gone into administration and ceased trading, I’m sure there are a few out there with happy memories of the Radnorshire Arms and the Knighton.

This year we are at the Metropole Spa hotel in Llandrindod Wells, so pack the swimming gear.

Here is the link for booking shared rooms. Please understand full payment must be made at the time of booking and no refunds shall be made, but you are at liberty to sell on you space to another LAM member should you no longer be able to attend.

I look forward to meeting lots of you at this event.

There was sad news that Ted Etherington had passed away on the 14th July.

Ted was a long standing member of LAM and quite a character who lived life to the full on his own terms.

I only ever met Ted once which was on a Norfolk w/e. I still have a vision of him with a lit cigarette in one hand and a pint in the other.

Lots of you have put some lovely messages on the forum.

Your committee are as always working tirelessly in the background keeping LAM a great place to be. We welcome two new members to the committee in Mark Clarke and Gary Campbell.

    Welcome aboard.

The life blood of the group is it’s Observers, without them there is no training to be had.

So welcome new Observers to our ranks Julian Clark, Andrew Henson, Rob Woosley, Mike Stanley and last but not least Claire Van Den Bosch, with the expectation of at least another couple very soon. Big thanks to the training team who keep providing us with the life blood.

PHEW!!!! What a scorcher we have been experiencing, and it is important not sacrifice our safety for a bit of cooling. I cringe at the riders I am seeing with no gloves, t-shirts and shorts. Short term gain for the pain of a bit of road rash or skin graft.

Remember to take on plenty of fluids, not just water as sweating will deplete electrolytes from the body and worse case scenario turn into heat stroke.

Enjoy the summer while it lasts Ride safe
