Like so much in the biking world, a ride out to Loomies is as much (if not more) about the journey than the destination. Loomies is something of a mecca in the biking fraternity, and every biker worth their licence will have either been there, or will visit at some point.
Situated by the A272, that well known gem of a road, the journey to Loomies cannot fail to bring a smile to your face. Taking the fastest or shortest route to Loomies is never a good idea – this is a journey to be savoured and enjoyed. The interweb is awash with countless variations on the best fun to be had getting to and from Loomies, and no route around there is a bad route. Rykas to Loomies is a popular day out for many bikers, and takes in two great locations on the same day.
One possible route (amongst many others) is to head east along the A272 to Midhurst, then head south towards Cocking. Just before Cocking veer left to get onto the A285 where you will enjoy some twisties known locally as ‘Duncton Bends’, from where you will head uphill towards Chichester. Just before Chichester you can pop into the Goodwood Circuit, a regular destination for LAM SSIs, AORs and Full Member’s Rides. From here head north on the B2141 in the direction of Petersfield, then through Ashford Hangers where you pick up the A32, before heading south to arrive at Loomies.
The menu at Loomies is a cut above many of the usual biking haunts. Whilst everything is good, the burgers are particularly notable, and (like the All Day Breakfasts) are named to reflect the biking theme – “Legal Leaner”, “Track Hero”, “Race Pro” and so forth are almost as much fun to ask for as they are to eat.
As a home from home for all bikers, you can’t fail to feel at home at Loomies – as you walk through the door you will notice the flowers in hanging baskets made from crash helmets, just before you notice the convenient racks for safely storing your helmet in and the visor cleaning sprays.
Whilst any day of the week is a good day to visit, the Loomies events are particularly worth a visit (mechanics evenings, guest speakers, manufacturers days and other events are all worth keeping an eye out for).
